Message from the Principal

Welcome to Hsinchu County American School,

My name is Gene Sorum, the acting Principal of HCAS.  Here at our school we strive to create an atmosphere where each and every student discovers their passion and the means to follow that passion whether it’s in the arts, business, engineering, or medicine.

We have a team of professional teachers with diverse backgrounds to open the world to students and encourage them to work hard to achieve success in any area of study or career they choose.  In my heart, there is a belief we have a chairman, board of directors, teachers, and staff working shoulder to shoulder with our children’s parents to open these new paths for our students. This quote from a Robert Frost poem is what we believe our students will say some day.

“I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.”

Gene Sorum

At HCAS we prepare students for the future with critical thinking, relevant skills, and a willingness to take a risk when needed, in order for them to contribute to the world at large. We do this through offering AP classes, Honors classes, and applying for WASC accreditation. Possessing a global perspective is an imperative trait for students of this and future generations. At HCAS parents can witness their children’s transformation. We as a staff look forward to being a part of this great life-changing event.
